The Athens Olympic torch was designed in the simple shape of an olive leaf. Weighing 700 gr and measuring 68 cm, it was designed in order to enhance the upward dynamic shape of the flame. The curved shape of the torch is the continuation of the flame but it is also a prolongation of the torchbearer's hand.

The Olympic Flame started its journey around the world on March 25, 2004.
