"Dromos" was an ancient road, 1600 m length, which led from the "Dipylon Gate" to Plato's Academy. On "Dromos" both sites, in the "Demosion Sema" (Public Tomb), were buried prominet Athenians and also those who fell in battles. At the beginning of the "Dromos" there was a square, 40 m wide, where the Athenians used to organize ceremonies, games and funerary speeches. Pericles' Funerary Oration, for the first dead in the Peloponnesian War, in 430 BC, was one of them.
The east side of the "Dromos" has not been excavated yet.
