The official Athens 2004 Olympic Games mascots were Phevos
and Athena. Their name derives from
two Olympian gods: Phevos, god of
light and music, known as Apollo,
and Athena, goddess of wisdom and
protector of the ancient city of Athens.
Their shape was inspired by an old Greek doll, in order to symbolize the
link between Greek mythology and the modern Olympic Games.
